I started my business in 1996 and to this day I clearly remember the joy and excitement I experienced in the lead up to the launch and the early days of the company as we started landing our first clients. There were plenty of other highlights and exciting times in the following years but those early days were a real adrenalin rush.

When I finally made the decision to start my own software development business I experienced a huge sense of excitement that I was about to do something I’d longed to do for a while. My head was full of ideas for the business and I was flush with motivation to make it a success.

I worked long hours in the evening, after finishing at my day job, preparing for the launch of the business. I had never felt such motivation in my life before. When you know that every hour you spend doing something that is going to benefit you personally it’s amazing how motivated you’ll feel. Through that pre-launch period and the 12 months after I was running on pure adrenalin for most of the time.

“Once you believe that you can do something, there is not a single person in the universe who can convince you otherwise.”

Of course, I had moments of doubt and trepidation at various points but they never overwhelmed me. I stayed focused on building the business even when some things didn’t work the way I had hoped or expected. There are always bumps in the road on any journey but as long as you keep moving forwards you’ll keep making progress.
